3.9 billion years of evolution; The Royal Tyrrell Museum

P1010354

Ever wonder what walking through 3.9 billion years of evolution would be like, we did and it’s overwhelming.

Situated in the Badlands of Alberta just outside of Drumheller, Alberta, the Royal Tyrrell Museum houses some of the most ferocious beasts that walked this earth even before I was born. Being born in the 50’s was scary enough but way back then there were some very supersized dinosaurs, vicious looking birds and massive fish that could do one a lot of harm. Our black bears, grizzly’s and cougars in comparison look like miniature poodles.

Just a few images, one really has to experience the massive size of these monsters in person.

Be warned, it’s information overload and for those interested in fossils and prehistoric finds plan a lot of time to truly experience it all. We have driven by this place many times, the “we should check that out sometime” finally we cashed in on the “sometime”. This is an amazing find and extremely well presented in a first class setting in the Alberta Badlands where much of this was discovered.

For those of you who have never travelled through Drumheller Alberta’s Badlands there is much to do and see. If you like hiking, Bob’s your uncle as there are miles of trails throughout the regio. Must see viewpoints are the Hoodoos, Horseshoe Canyon and Horse Thief Canyon where there are many trails just to name a few.

If Badlands and hiking or even car touring are for you plan a least several days in and around the Drumheller area. It’s flat farmland as far as the eye can see until you drop down into a totally different environment where nature has covered millions of years of this planet’s evolution.

One meets the nicest folks when travelling, some fellow nomads from Switzerland.

Definitely check out the Royal Tyrrell, you will not be disappointed, I’m sharing a few images from within, you have to experience it for yourself. I will not even try to identify many of these monsters that’s for you to do.

Note: I will no longer be posting our travel notes and photographs on Facebook or Instagram for those following as well as the different truck camper groups as I have in the past. I love sharing the beauty of this world in my images and a little on our experiences in our travels. It gets them off my computer and out into the world. I’m finding some social media a little toxic and too much AI generated material. I will however now be posting more regularly to this site, I do this for enjoyment and not monetarily, so your subscriptions will not be shared and you will not receive ads from this site. I will however continue to share items and things we would and could recommend for RV travel or home base off grid living.

By subscribing with your email, you will receive notice of a new post to view if you’re interested, that’s it simple and saves me time posting to many different groups.

Thanks for viewing, enjoy the images nature is just so perfect and beautifully remarkable even if some have big teeth.
